Hi,
Just went out and bought a new MB (ASUS P3B-F) to run Linux
and Solaris (I've been needing a new one for a while and wanted
to get in before the price rises after the earthquake in Taiwan.
I discovered when I got home that this card only has 1 ISA slot
(hmm, maybe I should have bought another ABIT instead).
I have a couple of ISA cards in the PC it's replacing (running
Slackware 1.0.9 from Oct 1994). So I need to decide if I go
out and buy a new network card or sound card. My preference
is for a new sound card (the soon to be turfed PC currently has
a Kingston NE2000 comp. combo card and a Pro Audio Spectrum
sound card with SCSI adaptor).
Anyone have any recommendations on sound cards, I know RTV are
offering:
Creative Sound Blaster Vibra 128 PCI - $65**SPECIAL**
Creative Sound Blaster AWE64 PCI - $65
Creative Sound Blaster LIVE! Retail Kit - $410
Creative Sound Blaster LIVE! Value OEM - $140
and $65 sounds about as high as I want to go at this stage. Anyone
have any comments on the above cards?
I still have to buy a new processor - I was thinking of waiting for
the PIII 600's that have been rebadged as 450's to hit our shores
but I need to install Solaris this weekend.
BTW: what happened to memory prices? I was going to buy 64MB but
now I think I'll move 32MB from another PC and wait a couple of
months for prices to come down again.
Bill
