We use 8 port "PCCOM" cards the manual describes them as
PC COM PCI BUS 8 PORT
SERIAL ADAPTER

and the box has 
MULTI PORT SERIAL CARD 
with a label 
2000 DECISION

this is probabily the 8 port version of what you are talking about
these seem to work and we are using them for the relyablity and cost
They cost $500
you treat them as 16550 uart serial device at the io and irq they
are set to.
