[plug] modem connect statistics

One item I have not seen anyone bring up is the role of compression in
the speeds at the destination (i.e., your system) - I have had some
phenominal speeds on highly compressable files and a max of about 6kbit
for compressed files which is about right. For any sort of comparison,
you need to know how your download file types fit in with the average -
and I suspect the pattern of the average linux user on the list is
different from the average windoze users that would make up the majority
of connections. Sorry Brett, with compression on, any sort of hard
stats becomes "lies, damn lies" unless you know all the parameters!
