[plug] Postfix

Hi,
As a user if I type mail user
then CTRL-D to send I get the following error 
warning: sendmail is set-uid root, or is run from a set-uid root process
what is the meaning of this and how do I fix it
I have uninstalled sendmail and have the latest Postfix installed
All mail goes to the mailer que and just stays there
