Log in how? via telnet? rsh? ssh? samba?

If you mean telnet.... /etc/hosts.deny and /etc/hosts.allow - the first
file should contain something like ALL: ALL and the second one should have
the addresses of the machines that you want to let in, take a read of the
file for explanations.

If ssh is what isn't allowing logins take a look at sshd_config either in
/etc, /etc/ssh, /usr/local/etc or somewhere....

You said 'unknown hosts' so rsh springs to mind, but I can't tell without
some information. I'm not familiar with rsh but the file rhosts seems
familiar.

More detail please.

Good luck,

Bernard.
