This mailing list is currently running on smartlist, which I'm quite
impressed with, and seems to run a lot faster (keeping in mind the
machine the old list ran on is significantly faster than the machine it's 
running on now).

The only advantage I've seen so far that majordomo had (which the list ran
on before) is that with Majordomo you can admin a list remotely, via
email, where with smartlist you need access to the machine. 

There are several other mailing list packages available but these two are
the only ones I have had admin experience with.
They are both available as Debian packages, and I would assume RPM's.
