Bill,
please don't attempt to run X-windows in 8MB, unless you are an expert,
or willing to do lots of work. Probably much easier to upgrade to 16MB
(I can donate some if its 72 pin), and then follow the advice for
low-memory systems. Even then, its a lot harder than just doing a standard
install of redhat etc. With a 500MB hdd, you'll need to be choosy about
which packages are installed.
