-- Start up an xterm (terminal)
-- switch user to root (ie at the command line in the xterm type su, then type
in the root pasword)
--type rpm -vhU packagename.rpm

If that still generates errors, the problem is not with the GNOME rpm
installer, so let the list know how you go
