"Probes, Logs and Things That Go Bump in the Night."
If you are on the internet, it is more than likely your site has been
probed by another site. Depending on your site, this may be a daily
or yearly occurrence. So what should you do about it? Is there any
reason to report them if they didn't get in? What can you do about
it? How do they get in and what happens when they do? What are the
new tricks they are using? These areas and more will be discussed
during this talk.
Biography:
David Conran has been a Systems Administrator for almost a decade in
the Government, Commercial, Research and Academic sectors. Currently
he works as a Senior Security Analyst for AusCERT (The Australian
Computer Emergency Response Team) at The University of Queensland.
As well as his normal work, David is the President of The System
Administrators Guild of Australia (SAGE-AU) and has organised three
national conferences on System Administration. To his friends, he is
(or was) just a long haired git.
