vesafb (was Re: [plug] Framebuffer problem)

Just as an aside from my previous request (thanks for trying to help,
Matt :) - has anyone out there got the _vesa_ framebuffer working?

Not Matrox, not any of the other specialised one, just the generic
vesa framebuffer.

If so, do you actually get a message in the bootup about it (similar
to what Matt posted as coming from his matroxfb)? If so, could you
post the relevant excerpt from the dmesg output? I'd like to see what
it's supposed to look like.
