In addition to checking out the things BillK and others mentioned, you
might like to have a look at the Modem-HOWTO in the /usr/doc/HOWTO dir
(part of the howto-6.x.x.rpm on RH 6.2) which contains lots of good
information, including some basic AT commands. (This rpm is on RedHat's 3rd
documentation CD from memory if you are using the official cd set - tricky
to find at first.)
