Greg, 
   A software engineeer posted the DLL screed in answer to my question
"what is a dll". I suspect that he wrote it himself. 

In the meantime I think that he has been jumped on 
by several linux people -- in the interests of effective advocacy I 
think that I will let him go now. Thanks for your reply -- I have also done
some reading on the web about dlls -- the term "dll hell" seems to occur a
lot!
