Joel,

I learned most of what I know from reading the HOWTO's.  These should be in 
/usr/doc/HOWTO or you can access them from www.linux.org. The best way to 
learn about Linux is to hang out with other Linux types.  Plug should help a 
lot here.  There are plenty of people including myself who would only be too 
happy to answer any questions you (or whoever the newbie is) may have.  Feel 
free to email me directly if you don't want to post to the mailing list.
