What I've heard .. when they are running the UG power they're dropping fibre
along with it. Makes perfect economical sense to do so and they should've
been doing it with sewerage, water, gas, roads and railways for years.
Hopefully it will result in infrastructure being available (HFC, FDDI,
whatever) so we can get some decent broadband here.
What really irks me is that I suspect the hideous rates for alternative
broadband (ADSL, HFC, etc) are all because the major telco's don't want to
piss away all the money they invested in ISDN infrastructure - which no-one
uses because it's even more hideously expensive.
All claims above unsubstantiated :-)
