Thanks Brian,
I spoke to a mate of mine in WP who confirmed that they were rolling out
fibre in both south perth and mt lawley under the company "Bright
Telecommunications" (funny really) and he said he will pass on a article
on it from thier company newsletter.
Cheers

What I've heard .. when they are running the UG power they're dropping
fibre
along with it. Makes perfect economical sense to do so and they
should've
been doing it with sewerage, water, gas, roads and railways for years.
Hopefully it will result in infrastructure being available (HFC, FDDI,
whatever) so we can get some decent broadband here.
What really irks me is that I suspect the hideous rates for alternative
broadband (ADSL, HFC, etc) are all because the major telco's don't want
to
piss away all the money they invested in ISDN infrastructure - which
no-one
uses because it's even more hideously expensive.
All claims above unsubstantiated :-)
- Brian.
