That describes my symptoms also.  Jpilot starts the sync, saves a few 
databases and then the palmpilot stops, saying it has lost the connection.
I was syncing at 57600, but changed to 9600 baud, but I got the same result.

pilot-xfer has allowed me to sync now though.
