[plug] Tar error explanation sought

At the risk of sounding stupid, is this a "bad" error message? We seem
to get it all the time, yet I can recover from tapes no problem.

gzip: stdin: decompression OK, trailing garbage ignored
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

In the man page closest I could see was:

--ignore-failed-read
don't exit with non-zero status on unreadable files

Which I was not using (tar xcvf ... ) anyway

Thanks
