I've seen a lot of trouble with Travan tapes drives at a number of
sites, using NT or Win9x.  The drives start "failing to respond",
usually intermittently, but rapidly getting worse.  You should consider
that the drive is shot, and that you won't get a satisfactory warranty
replacement.
