Just a note of possible interest to you all is that the windows 98
second edition boot disk which gives you the option of booting with or
without cdrom support does not detect the cdrom in this scenario
either. I had a 486 with this set up (cdrom connected with sb16 card
and two HDDs in the IDE connection on the mobo) not too long ago and
tested it out. It worked just fine with a full install of Win95 (and
probably on 98, too, but I didn't test a Win98 full install, just the
boot disk for scanning the HDDs and formatting and such). Again, this
is just a bit of extra data for anyone who is interested.

did the CDROM in stead of hanging when i first tried to install Redhat
6.0 on autoprobe for NE2000 compat.
