FW: FW: [plug] Help Please

I cant tell you which devise the software is using as the available cdwriter
field is blank.
Both KonCD and KreateCD find the CDrom but not the CDwriter and Xcdroast
finds the writer
but not the CDrom..?
I believe Xcdroast uses its own library files ??

Is there any commands to type in which will give me the variables for listed

devices ?

Thanks

Chris

Your grep wont work cos its /var/log/messages

Your insmod doesnt work cos you already have the ide-scsi module
installed

If you have ide-scsi installed, then you must have scsi support
(????someone confirm????)

Which device is your cd burning software trying to use? From memory
cd burners have to use the /dev/sg* devices for burning.... a /dev/scd*
device will treat it as a CDROM (its a problem with a long history,
basically because burning CDs is a low-level operation they provided the sg*
devices so you could have more direct control over the cd-burner without the
kernel being involved in every step.

Its difficult to diagnose over text :)

IM having difficulty remembering the finer points, cos when I had
the ide burner in there I also had a faster scsi burner in there so I setup
the ide one (ide-scsi) and didnt use it for ages. Thats why I took it out
and put in a DVD.

	Simon ,

With regards to setting up a cd burner, what relevant info do you
need to
	form
a diagnosis? Reading a bit more on the subject would i be right in
saying
	that if
i do not have scsi support installed/configured then no matter what
i add to
	the
various /etc/ files it still wont work ?

when typing "grep CDROM /var/messages" i get back - " no such file
or
	directory"

	/sbin/insmod -p ide-scsi responds with
	"using/lib/modules/2.4.3-20mdk/kernel/drivers/scsi/ide-scsi.o.gz"
"insmod:a module named ide-scsi already exists"

Is this the best way to check for scsi support ?

	Thanks for the help

	Chris

Yeh, I had my HP 6x2x2 rewriter working under M8 a while
back (I
took it out to put in a DVDROM)

What particular problems/errors are you having?

Can you explain the steps you are taking to get scsi
emulation
	working?

		Afternoon Pluggers....

Is there anybody within the group that is using Mandrake 8
that has
	managed
to get their IDE Cd writer to work ?
I have printed off at least 4 different styles of EASY steps
to
	setting up
scsi emulation and frankly I am beginning to wonder
if there is such a thing as EASY. All four have stated that
a
	recompiling of
the kernel is not required yet following the steps as
		written does absolutely nothing.

		I have a Standard PC AMD Duron 800 , 192mb ram
soltek 75KAV-X Main board , 20 gig hard drive
11x spin Sony CDRom and a Sony CDU928E Writer
		Mandrake 8 Kernel 2.4.3

Can anyone point me to a not so easy scsi- ide emulation or
perhaps
	even a
graphical installation tool to work with
( Too much to ask for ;-) ok then )

		Thanks

		Chris Newbie
