Jason, check the filename case and path carefully against the wine
docs.  In the past at least, you had to be specific in where and how you
run it - i.e., powerpoint may be looking for the file in all uppercase. 
I have imported, built and used a number of powerpoint presentations in
StarOffice, and found it excellent, and quite stable as well.
