OK, I've made that change, and at first glance appears to be working. I
tried resolving with nslookup via a few local nameservers, and all seemed
OK. Then I tried via a nameserver that had probably never been used to
resolve to me, a random example was a nameserver at IBM.

now can. Maybe if I try...

Strange - first it doesn't resolve, then it does when I immediately try
again. Maybe the problem isn't with my configuration after all - maybe it's
a timeout thing at the other end. (changes setting for timeout on
nslookup) - seems to resolve most of the time now. That must be it. Damn -
I should have thought of that earlier.
