Its funny that you should say that - iiNet is currently about to start
looking for a couple of Graduate CS programmers, and depending on who you
speak with will give completely different views on the current IT job
market at present.

Some say that the market is pretty desparate, with good graduates going
for around $35k, whilst others I have spoken with tell me that its pretty
tough for companies as salaries are going through the roof.

Even had someone tell me that the average base salary for a first year
grad was around $50k - in which case, I am probably better off paying
$65-$70k for someone with 5 years experience. Does this sound right? I
would have thought that for a first year grad a salary of around $40k
would be reasonable - but maybe thats just my age showing.
