[plug] ia64 linux = P4? & general Q re speed and if anyone has tried it

Hi Plug, after searching google and still at the risk of showing my ignorance:
(OK so it's always a risk, it's just the magnitude that varies!)

I believe 'ia64' is for the Intel P4 chip. Is this correct?  Are there real 
speed advantages?  Has anyone tried it?

One of my fellow students has had a new P4 bought for him, so given I'm 
right about ia64 - l wonder might anyone have a copy of Mandrake 8.0 (or 
other) for ia64 I could give them some blank cds for?
