[plug] Cant access cdrom: Wrong medium type

Hi list,
i recently upgraded my kernel and now im unable to access my cdrom drive(its
an ibook2 and is a dvd)
what used to work now gives this? ive searched around and seen the same
problem posted to other mailing list but with no solution...any one have any
idea's ?
[root at cusbert /]#mount /dev/hdb /mnt/cdrom
mount: block device /dev/hdb is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: Wrong medium type
and get this in /var/log/messages
cusbert kernel: cdrom: pid 679 must open 0_NONBLOCK!
cusbert kernel: cdrom:open failed.
