Two related points I raised at tonight's meeting:
* Linux.conf.au is on in January 2002, in Brisbane.
* If people are interested, PLUG can start to put together
proposals for 2003 to be here in Perth.
1) Brisbane
===========
Last year, seven of us went to Linux.conf.au in Sydney. We stayed in the
cheap campus accomodation at UNSW. We did this as affordable as possible.
We all had a great time, and met lots of people. If you would like to go,
then let me know, and we'll see if we can organise a group of us together.
We will need to start to get numbers together shortly so we can start to
cajole airline(s) into cheap deals. I would say that bookings would need
to be started around the second week of November. Email me if you are
interested. Probably around $600 - $700 for return flights, $300 - $500 for
the accomodation. Don't know yet about conference fees.

My plans for 2002 are at http://www.james.rcpt.to/2001/lca-2002/. This is a
slap-dash remake from last year.
2) Perth for 2003?
==================
If you can't afford or make it to Brisbane, then consider helping organise
the next Linux.conf.au after this. 2003. Typically in January. As discussed
last year. Check the mailing list archives for not just this list (PLUG)
but the *separate* mailing list we created for discussing organising a
Linux Conference here in Perth. Don't reply to this part of the message
here; subscribe to the separate list, and discuss it there. If we can come
up with a proposal, we can take this to linux.org.au and run it here.
The mailing list is conf at plug.linux.org.au. To subscribe, send an
email to conf-request at plug.linux.org.au, with the content of the message
"subscribe". Follow the prompts in the email you get back.

This is the content we had from last year, slightly updated.
End of thought. Please move discussion to the conf list to keep the
signal-to-noise down for everyone else.
