[plug] Mandrake8 and FS problem

Hi 

Have been following the Mandrake 8.1 upgrade and FS thread.

I have a problem with Mandrake 8 and I guess it could be an FS issue.

I did a partial install of Mandrake 8 keeping only my old 7.2 home
directory.

However I now have a system where even root does not have access to the
block 
devices. ie /mnt/floppy can not not have permissions altered or even be
deleted 
by root.

I cant't see why since how would what is on the old /home partition
effect
the fresh install on /boot /

What's going on?
