Use the natsemi driver. "modprobe natsemi". (ie, National Semiconductor).
I have one of these on my Debian 2.4.8 RAID 1 ReiserFS DevFS monster box
(http://www.james.rcpt.to/programs/debian/raid1/), and it works well.
