Well, some screensavers can be a little bit dicey - they do take
complete control of the display, so it's quite possible that if they
stuff up it could make your display inaccessible.

That indeed sounds like a minor configuration screwup somewhere
along the line. Are you using Redhat's "official" Gnome packages?

Yeah, that's just a general "bugger, my xserver's gone away" message.

Never heard of a ELSA Gloria Synergy. Oh well, if XFree86 knows it...

You might also like to try upgrading to the latest XFree86 (4.1.0), if
you're currently using XFree86 4.0.3. Probably worth a try.
