[plug] hard drive tribbles and tribulations

i was getting this:
hda: 1667232 sectors (854 MB) w/1KiB Cache, CHS=827/32/63
HDA: INVALID GEOMETRY: 32 PHYSICAL HEADS?
Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 00000038

Kerlnel panic: Attempted to kill Init
until i found the bios somehow made it LBA which messed it up so i set it 
to Normal then it was fine

Now i find after i turned it off from that panic it messed up the hard 
drive with heaps of errors when i ran e2fskc

So whatever happened im not sure but ill stress the point: DONT JUST SWITCH 
OFF YOUR LINUX BOX hehe because the hard drives just dont seem to like it
Now that login doesnt even exist and some libpam etc have disappeared im 
going to have to give my box MAJOR surgery

Just some good advice... (rescue disk time)
