downloaded the brand new all singing all dancing kde-2.2 packaged as rpm's

Changing to root i ran:
rpm -ivh /home/aunty/download/kde-2.2/*.rpm

Assuming that rpm had simply not bothered to exhaustively (recursively ?)
untangle all the dependencies for the whole list of files, i thought ". .
hmmm .. everything's supposed to be there. i'll force the issue and see
what happens . ." and ran:
cd /home/aunty/download/kde-2.2
rpm -Uvh --force --nodeps *.rpm
Of course no errors this time!! Smug and a little apprehensively, i Alt-F1
back to aunty, then ran startx. The kdm starts and then an error box
containing the following message appeared:
"There was an error setting up inter-process communications for KDE. The
message returned by the system was:
Could not read network connection list.
/home/aunty/.DCOPserver_delilah_:0
Please check that the "dcopserver" program is running!"
. . . and so i clicked the "ok" button underneath it, and she exited
back out of X. The following errors were left on the console:
kdeinit: error while loading shared libraries: libfam.so.0: cannot load
shared object file: No such file or directory
/usr/bin/kdeinit: error while loading shared libraries: libfam.so.0: cannot
load shared object file: No such file or directory
/usr/bin/kdeinit: error while loading shared libraries: libfam.so.0: cannot
load shared object file: No such file or directory
Could not register with DCOPServer. Aborting.
connect() failed: : No such file or directory
waiting for X server to shut down
There is no sign of any "libfam" files in /lib and running:
"find / libfam*" and. . .
"ps -aux|grep dcop" didn't turn up anything.
i'm lost now. Where did i go wrong, and what to do next ??
. . to the tune of a well known Dire Straits song . ." I want my, I want my,
I want my KDE . . ."
Aunty.
