*urk* Win2k or worse WinNT with some ghastly abomination like
WinGate connected 24/7 to a high-bandwidth pipe... *shudder*

Ethernet <=> ADSL modems are definitely not cheap. We have a lovely
alcatel jobbie here at work and I've never even had to look at it funny
since I plugged it into the UPS and router (debian of course).

iiNet use the Alcatel ADSL SpeedTouch USB
(http://www.speedtouchdsl.com/) so I'll really be checking out that
mainly. I'll keep an eye out for D-Link info too.
OK, I extracted the modem info from iiNet. It seems that not only do
Alcatel officially support linux for the modem, but they even provide
firmware upgrades for it that can be installed using linux (or thats how
it looks to me). *wow*.
iiNet won't support linux with usb, they require an ethernet DSL modem.
However you're free to use one according to their techs, and they say it
does work.
Alcatel has drivers. More info as I find out / try things. I'd love to
hear of someone on PLUG who has done this or knows the situation...

I don't think for my employer. Unless stated otherwise, my mail is my opinion.
