[plug] kernel 2.4 enet+disk weirdness

hi all
I'm currently scp'ing my mp3/ogg collection from my PC to my laptop and 
I've noticed something rather interesting. It is now running kernel 2.4 
after a nuke-and-reinstall session, and it is failing to symltaneously 
write to disk and recieve over ethernet.  Under kernel 2.2 it was 
happily streaming data from ethernet direct to disk but now it is doing 
some ugly alternation stuff and taking much longer to copy.

anybody seen this sort of thing before? Ideas on whats causing it?
