The [800MHz Hammer] machine was running Mandrake Linux, kernel
2.4.18-24mdk, and identified itself as running at 797.7 MHz with
256k of cache.
According to the benchmarks below that quote, this 800MHz Hammer ran 4x faster
than a 400MHz Celeron, which is impressive given that the memory etc would
only be about 30% faster (ie, it ran 2x faster clock-for-clock despite the
memory being 33% slower in relative terms).
The article is also a good, succinct explanation of how AMD's HyperTransport
technology works. HT makes connecting up to 8 of the beasties together a
relatively simple task (practically no glue logic).
Cheers; Leon
