DVD playback is an absolute bugger under Linux! The Hollywood+ chipset and
Creatives DXR2/3 chipsets are both supported but I'm not game enough to go
through the installation process for my Videologic card (Hollywood+ based)!

If it's a Hollywood+ howto that you're after, check out
www.suse.co.uk/uk/support/howto/mpeg/index.html. The most common card
nowdays is the Videologic card that I use, it's got good support.

Here hold on, you mean a DVD-ROM drive. Bloody hell, doesn't anyone know the
difference between the two? Ask for a DVD and someone'll say "What movie?",
not ask what sodding brand you want! Nnngnnnnnnnnnngggg! Sorry, I get rather
emotional about that issue, never mind.

Yes, CD-Rs are fine (you always use CD-Rs!), but CD-RWs are a different
story. I shelled out an extra $40 to get a drive that had no worries with RW
media, I chose Diamond Data (from Mitsubishi).

I'm not really sure how they're treated because I' using SuSE, and it's not
hardcore! I'm pretty certain that it'd be treated as an IDE device though.

KDE guy (who uses Window Maker!)
