The HP Pavilion 720a does not appear in the Win2K hardware compatibility list 
at 
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/server/howtobuy/upgrading/compat/search/computers.asp 
which may explain the on-board sound card woes, but the SBLive is on the 
list, so I suspect the drivers. Have you tried the Win2K drivers for SBLive 
on the Creative site? (http://asia.creative.com/support/drivers/)
