Clint,
Turn off the onboard sound card through the BIOS.

This is sort of on topic and off topic but please bear with me.
I recently got myself a new PC (HP pavilion 720a), which originally had
xp installed, which I promptly deleted and put w2k on. Today I installed
RH 7.1
Dual boot, and proceeded to run sound config, which detected the on
board sound card (an ac 97 or some such) , but not my sound blaster
live. I then manually edited the settings, tested it and all went as
planned. I then booted back to w2k to prepare to copy some of my work
over when lo and behold my sound blaster no longer functioned. After
re-installation I determined that windoze detects the card but it does
nothing, and my winamp just sits on 0 seconds when I try to play music
(if that helps define the problem) I have been through all the useless
trouble shooters to no avail.
To cut a long story short I wonder if any one else has had such a
problem and whether they or anyone else knows how to get this fixed ....
