Don't be so sure, Bill. I have exactly the same problem and have had it 
for months. I'm with dingoblue, but I don't think that they're at fault. 
My brother never loses a connection on his XP laptop yet I lost them 
more frequently that I like. Yet sometimes I can get connections that 
last 12hours plus. I can't explain why this is, except to say that it 
seems to be related to what I'm doing. If I'm downloading something 
using ftp, I almost never have a problem. I never seem to encounter 
difficulty if I'm doing something constant or regular. But if I'm trying 
to download email, and lookup two sites, then the line will often crash 
- which it shouldn't do in theory.

Unfortunately, I don't have the time to make a thorough investigation, 
and I'm starved for ideas on how to tackle this at any rate, apart from 
possibly ditching my el cheapo modem and getting something decent.
