Before, or neither, depending on how you look at it. I don't use dselect 
anymore for that reason - it can be annoying to get to install that 
package - _just_ that pkg and its _required_ deps. apt-get install 
<pkgname> for me, plus apt-cache search, apt-cache show and dpkg -l 
\*pkg-substring\*.
