Topic:      Using LDAP to authenticate Unix and SAMBA systems

At the end of 2001 / beginning of 2002 the E&EE UWA implemented and LDAP
directory to authenticate its Unix and NT systems.   The system takes
information from student records and creates accounts for any student
that is enrolled in an E&EE unit.  It has a web based interface for
account activation and password changing.  This system has dramatically
decreased the number of support calls for password changing and account
creation.

Tom Hallam is the Information Systems Manager and the Dept Electrical
and Electronic Engineering, UWA.  He has a degree in Agricultural
Science and a Graduate diploma in Computer Science (Information
Systems).  He's been employed in computer based jobs for about 15 years.
