I don't know who handles this now but to who ever needs it here it is

auDA's new Australian domain name
requirements and org.au names
.au Domain Administration Ltd (auDA)
is the government-endorsed manager of Australian domain names (see
http://www.auda.org.au
You are being sent this email because
you are listed in the org.au database as the administrative contact
for the
  above org.au name
This email contains important information
about the above domain name. If you are no longer the administrative
contact
and you know who has replaced you, please urgently forward this email
to them.
If you do not know who has replaced you forward this email to
noadmin at auda.org.au

< Today, auDA introduced a new domain
name regime and new domain name policy rules. This means that you, as
admin
contact, will need to take some action once you have read this email.

Expiry Date: Up until now, org.au
names have not been licensed with an expiry date. From today all
org.au domain
name licences will be subject to a 2 year period and so will need to
be renewed
every 2 years. Your org.au name will be deemed to have been issued
today and
will expire in 2 years time. At that time, if your organisation
wishes to
continue to use the name it will have to be renewed for another 2
year
period.</font></li><br><br>
<li><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"> Fees: From today there
is a fee
charged for each new org.au name and each renewal. This means that
when your
organisation renews the domain name licence in 2 years time it will
need to
pay a fee. You do NOT need to pay a renewal fee now. You will only
need to
pay a renewal fee when you renew in 2 years
time.</font></li><br><br>
  <li><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Renewing your domain
name: In
order for your organisation to renew this domain name licence in 2
years time,
and in order to make any changes to your information in the
meantime, you
MUST nominate a Registrar of Record. Registrars are licensed by auDA
and their
job is to 'manage' the domain name by renewing it and updating
information
    in the database when necessary.</font></li><br><br>
    <li><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">How to nominate a
Registrar of
Record: A list of accredited registrars and links to their web
sites is
      available at <a
href="http://www.auda.org.au/registrars/">http://www.auda.org.au/registr
ars</a>
There is no charge for simply nominating a Registrar of Record,
but some
registrars may charge for additional services. It is important to
check
the service offerings and charges of each registrar before making
your choice.
      </font></li>
    <br><br>
    <li><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Once you have chosen a
Registrar
you will need to contact them and give them your Domain Name
Password (previously
called the Registry Key). If you know your password, you can give
it to
the registrar of your choice. They will do the rest. If you do not
know
      your password, go to <a
href="http://admin.auda.org.au">http://admin.auda.org.au</a>
      and follow the instructions.</font><br>
  </li>
</ol> </blockquote>
<p><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Carrying out these few
tasks now
will ensure that your domain name details are up to date and that you
can renew
your domain name when it expires. </font></p>

auDA and
the new domain name regime and policy rules, see
