Blender shareholders have agreed to OpenSource Blender for EUR100k:

For those who don't know, Blender is an *excellent* 3D editing package, 
previously closed source. NaN (Not a Number), the company behind it, folded a 
few months ago - exit Blender, stage left. No more updates, no more support.

Brighter-than-average NaN shareholders have now decided that if they can get 
100,000 Euros for the code, they'll allow it to be OpenSourced. There are 
animation houses using it which could probably afford to drop that much cash 
on it instantly, all by themselves. The future's so bright, I gotta wear 
shades...
