Yeah. For that reason, I'd reccomend that you suggest to the reader to
use the software packaged with their distro where possible, either from
their distro CDs or the update site for that distro, and list mirror
links for the common ones (debian, RH, mdk, etc) at ftp.iinet.net.au,
mirror.aarnet.edu.au, ftp.uwa.edu.au and (debian) ftp.au.debian.org .
Its usually much simpler to get software packaged for your distro
running with no hassles, especially now that RH-based distros are
_finially_ getting their act togeather re apt-like programs for dep
resolution.

sources.list lines for debian users on those mirrors might be nice too,
tagged where true with " # On WAIX "

I'd suggest linking to the home page but not a direct download link, for the
reasons expressed above. The only exception is the odd thing that isn't
packaged for some distros (OpenOffice comes to mind) in which case a dl
link might be wise, but to the appropriate dir on the mirror, not the
file itsself.

Oh, and you might want to note that "some of these programs, most
notably mozilla and OpenOffice, may not run well on older or low-end
computers". Heh... I just got OO.o running on a 486DX2/66 *grin* - XDMCP
and etherboot are wonderful things.

Nope.

Moz should go under mail client too IMO (see my X-Mailer *grin*) even if
its just with an <a href="#moz" >. It may be a bit bloated and have a
but here and there (IMAP mail folder nesting, anybody?) but it does a
pretty good job.
