Yes, CPAN is a wonder. I'm always a bit surprised that it isn't one of
the first projects mentioned when people look for examples of
huge-scale open-source success stories. I suppose because it's lots of
different back-room things rather than a single end-user program; but
it's voluntary collaborative work on a grand scale and with really
positive results.
