hmm... popular... the same could be said for Windows, you know  :)

My suggestion would be to install whatever you feel confident using.  If
you're the type of person that loves to get their hands dirty and stay
up late learning the hard(fun) way, try something like Debian; if you're
not feeling so confident, go with something with a gentler learning
curve, such as Redhat or Mandrake.

If you're really not too sure, try to pick something that will leave you
with a "local expert" -- a friend that can drop around and give you some
pointers when you get stuck.


You know, I'm thinking we need a PLUG FAQ for this sort of stuff...
perhaps on the website?
