I am a fan of Redhat for its ease of installation and its popularity - ie 
large user base to pick the brains of.

For all your software needs that you stipulated. An install of 7.2 or 7.3 
(take your pick really) with the default workstation option and using KDE 3.0 
should do the trick.

Did you have any issues installing 7.1?
