CUPS is pretty good, yeah. I hear Red Hat has it better set up than 
Debian, luckily - on Debian it can be clunky at times due to the lack of 
reliable configuration tools other than its somewhat bugged and limited 
web-based interface.

My impression of CUPS so far has been really good core software let down 
by config tools and really, really opaque documentation.

BTW if anybody knows of a PPD parser/checker for CUPS, I'd love to hear 
about it. I've got a printer at work that is causing real problems with 
CUPS and I can't use any paper tray selection, etc until I can get CUPS 
to read the ppd w/o segfaulting :-(
