The best way I've found to use multiple mail clients is to run a local
imap server and use that for all your mailboxes. Using courier-imap, I
currently switch between evolution, mutt, two instances of mozilla, and
also mutt operating on the mailboxes itself (Maildir format).
It can be a challenge to set up initially (working out where to put your
old mail so the imap server can see it), but after that imap makes
switching mailers trivial.
