Why re-invent the wheel? The WA chapter of AUUG is in a comatose state due
to the lack
of new blood. 

I see great similarities between the purpose of AUUG and what is being
proposed. Those
who want a professional body principally concerned with Linux need only join
AUUG
(http://www.auug.org.au), hold a local meeting, select office bearers and
get to 
work. A supportive national body is already in place to assist.
