I'm pretty sure Kmail uses the mbox format like any well behaved mailer.
(and not-so-well-behaved; just "file Inbox" on a win32 netscape machine
over smbfs and lo-and-behold even it uses mbox). Evolution probably
wants to import mbox files, so it probably won't be saying "kmail
import" anywhere.

Ok, just checked. Evolution does support mbox, just do
"file -> import", choose "import single file", hit next. Now aim it at
your Kmail inbox, in ~/Mail from memory as its been ages since I used
kmail. Change file type to "mbox" if needed but it should figure it out
itsself. Repeat for other mailfolders. This is what you'll need to do if
it doesn't detect and allow automated import of mail from kmail.
